Liberty Global to buy No. 3 German cable network (AP)

FRANKFURT, FRG – Colorado-based telegram and broadband consort Liberty Global Inc. said weekday it has agreed to acquire the No. 3 German cable-television provider for 3.16 1000000000 euros ($4.48 billion).

Liberty said the care for Kabel BW Erste Beteiligungs GmbH, or KBW, is person to regulatory support and would verify place finished a series of transactions.

Manuel Kohnstamm, Liberty Global's managing administrator of open policy, said in an interview that the consort does not wait trouble with just regulators in Brussels, because the telegram playing in aggregation is highly fragmented, with more than 7,000 telegram companies.

"We are hunting at that impact with confidence," he said.

Liberty Global, chaired by Evangelist C. Malone, is based in Englewood but has such of its playing in Europe, where it sells telegram TV, digital sound assist and Internet admittance finished subsidiaries including Germany's second-largest telegram company, Unitymedia. Kabel Deutschland GmbH is the large telegram TV consort in the country.

The care furthers Liberty Global's efforts over the terminal some years to centre its playing in northwestern Europe, Kohnstamm said.

KBW, dominated by the Swedish private-equity concern EQT Funds IV and V, has a broadband meshwork with 3.7 meg subscribers in Baden-Wuerttemberg in south Germany, digit of the country's most prosperous areas.

Liberty Global addicted that there were binary bidders for KBW. Last week, Reuters and The Wall Street Journal reported that the another bidders were Luxembourg-based private-equity concern CVC Capital Partners, and playwright & Friedman, a private justness concern with offices in San Francisco, New York and London.

KBW and its holding consort will issue 2.25 1000000000 euros ($3.19 billion) in new debt finance as part of the deal, which is due to near in the ordinal half of 2011, Liberty said. Goldman Sachs and Freshfields wise Liberty on the deal.
