Oracle to pay $46M to settle kickbacks charges (AP)
WASHINGTON – Oracle Corp. has agreed to pay $46 million to resolve a causa over questionable kickbacks to get polity work.
The Department of Justice charged that Sun Microsystems Inc., which Oracle bought terminal year, and another technology companies paying kickbacks to Accenture PLC for Accenture to recommend that federal agencies buy Sun products.
The Justice Department said terminal year that the causa awninged code contracts that ran from 1998 to 2006 and were worth hundreds of jillions of dollars.
Six another companies including Hewlett-Packard Co. have settled kindred charges.
The settlement by Oracle's USA organisation also resolved claims that Sun provided half and outside aggregation to polity getting officers during negotiations over contracts with the U.S. Postal Service and digit resellers of Sun products. The polity said regulations and contracts required Sun to vindicate how it did playing so that getting officers could discuss a clean price for polity customers.
Government officials said kickbacks and outside aggregation during lessen negotiations cost taxpayers money.
Allegations against Sun were prototypal raised in a causa brought by digit whistle-blowers, and the polity joined their case in 2007.
Oracle representatives didn't move to a request for comment.
Shares of Oracle, a code consort supported in Redwood Shores, Calif., rose 3 cents to near at $32.03.
